LISA KRIGEL

Since moving to the UK in 1999 from America, Lisa has exhibited her tableware nationally and internationally and has had the opportunity to work on a number of commissions, including for British Television series Sherlock Holmes! She received her BFA in Ceramics from Alfred University and her MFA in Ceramics and Mixed Media Sculpture from Pennsylvania State University. She received an Arts Council Development Grant in 2005 and the Gold Medal for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod in 2016. She currently lectures in Fine Art and Arts, Health and Wellbeing at the University of South Wales and has done so since 2018.

I FEEL BEST WHEN

I am in my studio creating new works or in my kitchen cooking, baking or just washing the dishes.

what i love about my job is

that I get to create everyday in an environment filled with supportive like-minded people.

MY COOKING

I love to explore cuisines from around the world but at the moment, my favourite type of cooking is Middle Eastern. I just love the complexity of flavours this cuisine has the ability to offer.

Functional sculptures

Every piece in each tower is hand thrown on the potters wheel and made from a specially blended stoneware clay designed to achieve that concrete colour. Once bisque-fired, each part is meticulously sanded and polished to a smooth finish, glazed on the inside with a variety of satin matt glaze colours including paprika, orange, pale and lime green. The work is then high-fired for durability and is food and dishwasher safe.
